Meeting an agent in person is a great way to get past the slush pile. If an agent is interested in your work and requests a sample or a book proposal, you can write “Requested Material” on your submission, putting yourself way ahead of the pack.

There are plenty of opportunities for writers to meet agents face to face. Below are a few upcoming events.

Southern Lights Writers’ Conference (romance writing) -March 28-30, Jacksonville, Florida

Northern Colorado Writers’ Conference – April 4-5, Fort Collins, Colorado

League of Vermont Writers Spring Session – April 19, Rutland, Vermont features instructional presentations on querying and pitching agents, while a session on July 19 in Burlington, Vermont is a mini pitch slam with a half dozen or so agents hearing live pitches.

Muse and the Marketplace – April 26-27, Boston, MA

Writer’s Digest Books Writers’ Conference/Book Expo America – May 28, Los Angeles, CA

Agents and Editors Conference – June 20-22, Austin, Texas

Jackson Hole Writers’ Conference – June 26-29, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
