People casually refer to this or that being heaven on earth, but if there is one piece of something beautiful, pure and able to move mountains, it’s music. My world would be cold and dark without it.

Big Black Horse & A Cherry Tree by K.T. Tunstall. Visual and imaginative yet simple. Really speaks to the poet and “fun-haver” in me.

Black Velvet by Alannah Myles. Gritty. Vivid. What’s not to love?

Broken Wings by Mr. Mister. A feeling song of wholeness and transformation. It inspires me to reach for healing themes in my stories.

Fields of Gold by Sting. Haunting. Beautiful. Timeless. This song stirs my soul, painting a lush landscape of my fragmented daydreams.

Fields of Gold by Eva Cassidy. This version awakens in me a yearning for moments past, maybe even moments I never knew.

Hear Me in the Harmony by Harry Connick, Jr. Harry is so charismatic. His personality really comes through in his music: his insight, humor and hope. This song illustrates the reach from obscurity to notoriety with all the compromises and lessons we have to learn in between.

I’m Too Sexy by Right Said Fred. You either love it or hate it. It’s just too much fun for me to hate.

I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor. Okay. Slightly cheesy, but I just love the theme.

Jive Talkin by the BeeGees. I know no one will believe this, but I heard Jive Talkin by the BeeGees for the first time ever this spring. I FELL IN LOVE with the song! I get laughed at for this, but true genius is often misunderstood, you know. :-)

Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae. When it all seems too much, this is the song I listen to. Puts me right as rain.

Stayin’ Alive by the BeeGees. Okay, I’ve just recently admitted it to myself … I’m coming out of the closet. Hello, my name is Julie … and I’m a BeeGees fan. Yep. Yep, it’s true. I just can’t help myself. Oh! And this link goes to what I guess is the official video for this song. Check OUT the tighty whiteys on the lead dude (Barry?)! Talk about Ed Grimley up to the armpits!

Sway by Michael Buble. Wow! What ISN’T to like about this song? No matter where I am or what I’m doing when I hear it, I gotta move.

Take My Breath Away by Berlin. An 80s classic.

The Joker by Steve Miller Band.

Theme from St. Elmo’s Fire. Over the entire course of my life, few pieces of music have ever stirred me like this one.

These Dreams by Heart. I love just about any music with that poetic, other-worldly quality. And if it happens to be a song from the 80s, well all the better.

Time To Say Goodbye by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli. This IS music. Pure and simple. And their chemistry together is amazing, almost tangible. (They switch to English after a bit.)

Vincent by Don McLean. Sometimes, when I listen to his music, I could almost believe that McLean was once a muse who decided to take human form. This song is a tribute to artist, Vincent Van Gogh, for his painting, Starry, Starry Night.

Vincent by Josh Groban. Same song, different genius and beauty.

You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban. I cry every time I hear this song, especially when he’s singing it.
